ABOUT US

OUR MISSION

MAKING SPORT ACCESSIBLE FOR EVERYONE

Since being established as a community interest company in 2017, DOSportUK has had one clear mission. To provide sporting and physical activity opportunities to people with a disability.

We wanted to make sure that anyone who wants to take part in sport or physical exercise is able to do so. But we discovered it's not that people with a disability didn't want to be active, it's that there was a lack of opportunities and support within local communities to do so. This is something we were determined to change. We have three core objectives which drive everything we do: improve the health & wellbeing of individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or autism, build social connection for these individuals and promoting inclusion and opportunity for everyone.

OUR CORE OBJECTIVES

Build Social Connections

Our sessions create a welcoming space where everyone feels part of a team. We help reduce isolation and strengthen community bonds, encouraging friendships, teamwork, and shared experiences both on and off the court.

Promote Inclusion & Opportunity

We work to make sport accessible for everyone — not just within DOSportUK, but across the wider community. By raising awareness and promoting inclusive practices, we create pathways for people with disabilities to access more opportunities in sport and beyond.

Improve Health & Wellbeing

We use inclusive sport as a tool to support both the physical and mental wellbeing of individuals with intellectual disabilities. Through regular sessions, participants build confidence, fitness, and a sense of routine that positively impacts everyday life.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Back in 2014, director Jacob decided to set up a basketball session in the town he was living and it was called Glossop Town Gladiators. During this time he was working with Basketball England where he and fellow director Jon Stonebridge, who was the disability basketball officer at the time, met and a friendship blossomed.

In 2016 and knowing his contract at Basketball England was coming to an end, Jacob decided to go at it alone and set up DOSportUK! Roping in the basketball and sports expertise of Jon and the employment law expertise of his dad, Paul, he set about to create opportunities within sport and in particular basketball.

Fast forward 9 years to 2025, DOSportUK is continuing to grow and now is registered as a fully formed Community Interest Company (registered in 2017). Now offering 10 community sessions per week and working with several major partners along the way, everyone at DOSportUK are super proud of all we have achieved so far and are super excited for whats to come!
